Information we collect

We collect only what's needed to sign you in, sync your reading data across devices, and keep books available offline.

Account information

You sign in with a Google account or a phone number, handled by Firebase Authentication. Depending on the method you choose, we receive:

Content you create in the app

• Bookmarks — the pages you save in a book, linked to your account.
• Notes — any notes you write against a book or page.

This data is stored in Cloud Firestore and scoped to your account's unique ID, so it stays private to you and syncs wherever you sign in.

Files stored on your device

When you open a book, its PDF is cached locally so you can keep reading without a connection. This cache and your app preferences (such as theme or last-read position) stay on your device and are not uploaded to us.

What we do not collect

Shikkhon does not show ads, does not include any advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or precise location.

How we use it

• To create and authenticate your account, and keep you signed in.
• To sync your bookmarks and notes across the devices you use.
• To show the book library and let you resume reading where you left off.
• To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the app.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build profiles for marketing purposes.

Storage & security

Account data, bookmarks, and notes are stored using Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest. Firestore access rules restrict each user's data to that user's own account.

Cached book files live in the app's local storage on your device and are removed if you clear app data or uninstall the app.

Sharing & third parties

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the app:

These providers process data under their own privacy and security commitments as Google Cloud/Firebase subprocessors. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of our users or the public.

Retention & deletion

We keep your account, bookmarks, and notes for as long as your account is active. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at the email below; we'll remove your Firestore records within a reasonable time after verifying the request. Locally cached files are removed whenever you clear the app's storage or uninstall it.

Your choices

• Access & correction — your bookmarks and notes are visible and editable directly in the app.
• Sign out — available any time from the app's account menu.
• Deletion — request account and data deletion by emailing us (see Contact).
• Offline cache — clear cached books at any time from your device's app storage settings.

Children's privacy

Shikkhon is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review it periodically.
