Reading and note-taking that lived in two different places
Reading a book and writing notes about it happened on two separate surfaces: the page, and whatever paper was nearby. A bookmark was a folded corner or a scrap of paper that could fall out, and a note taken while reading had no link back to the page it was about.
A reader where the notes stay with the page
We built a Flutter app around a single reading view: bookmarking a page and writing a note against it both happen without leaving the book, so a reader's markup stays attached to the page it belongs to. Sign-in keeps a reader's library, bookmarks and notes with their account rather than tied to one device.
Results
- Bookmarks and notes stay attached to the page they were made on, not a separate app or notebook
- A reader's library, bookmarks and notes sync to their account across devices
